Trans-media Negotiations

Sub-Title
The Press and the Performing Arts in Singapore

DESCRIPTION

Description

The following description was extracted from the Introduction in focas No. 1 by Editor Lucy Davis.

The forum was a rare occasion where members of the press, particularly representatives from Singapore Press Holdings, almost outnumbered the arts practitioners, both in audience and on the panel. Discussions ranged from thrashing out questions of "populism" vs "elitism", and "popular culture" vs "high culture" to defining the role of a reviewer, the role of a critic, the rights of the practitioner who is being reviewed, the rights of a free press, and the role of ethics in the light of a number of recent arts-media controversies.

The forum transcription was published in focas No. 1.

The video recording is available on request.
