In December 93, The Necessary Stage held auditions for a play that required people who had attempted suicide or thought about it. About 50 people turned up - each with a different story to share. Now 6 months later, after intensive discussions & improvisations we present 'Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky, an evening of sharing, of stories - sometimes startling, painful, sometimes funny...but always honest.

Twelve people come together to rehearse a play. It is their third rehearsal and they are just beginning to get to know one another. The first two rehearsals have been friendly and fun, but today, they are about to get into the 'topic'.

In the course of the rehearsal and the sharing, tension arises as they struggle to come to terms with the different temperaments. By the end of the evening, there is a realisation that all twelve are bound by a common experience - the rediscovery of life.

Talk is a play about a talk show that deals with all sorts of problems we face today. Some examples are human being's misconceptions on love, woman, family and the good life. It also covers rude Singaporeans during a cinema show who are out to have fun at the expense of other viewers. Singaporeans who claim to have a right on other people's lives fortheir own pleasures. 

Talk is about misguided youths and young adults who want to escape reality and end up dead. It is humorous, energetic, dark and very serious. 

Talk is about talk: what will become of us when we do not talk or communicate, and yet the other question still remains - what happens to people who do talk. So how do we behave today? To talk or not to talk, that is the question.  

Julie is a play about a typical modern teenager trying to cope with the angst and pangs of her life. She slowly withdraws into herself, perhaps waiting for someone to lend her a support. However, as she soon finds out the answer to all her problems can only be found from deep within herself, as she confronts her deepest fears. 

Precinct is a semi-absurdist play about two people trying to cope with each other’s obsessive behaviours and also their own. Mark is obsessed with the idea of having a baby to call his own, because of the memories he has of his still-born sister whom he remembers as being buried “in a grave four feet wide, six feet deep”. Ellen is incessantly worried that a nuclear holocaust will soon happen, and wipe out all forms of life on earth. Their heightened fear of apocalypse leads them to question their identity, and hence their purpose of existence. 

Three Years in the Life and Death of Land is about the Lims, the Mulchands, a ghost, a cat and three mosquitoes - one big family, trying hard to be happy.
