The Orange Playground Lab #3

Are rules meant to be broken? An ensemble questions and reimagines the conventions and norms surrounding their individual practices. How do we problematize the ideal?

Created by Artistic Director Alvin Tan, The Orange Playground (TOP) is The Necessary Stage’s newest initiative in creative research and development. We seek to collaborate with artists in an exploratory environment where risks can be freely taken within and with the creative process. TOP will provide opportunities for free, ad-hoc collaborative “jamming” and play with emerging and established talents.

International Friendship Day

It’s International Friendship Day at MPSS but friendship seems to be the last thing on the students’ minds.

While the foreign students Adi, Anton and Liqin are questioning what to showcase at their booths and why there isn’t one for the local students, the Drama Club boys are unhappy about them not putting any effort towards the much anticipated SYF.

Meanwhile, Carys is facing pressure at home for losing her spot as the school’s top Maths student.

Will she lose her top spot to an international scholar?
Will the Drama Club boys get the foreigners to join in the chorus?
Will Adi get the booth of his choice?

Pioneer (Girls) Generation was staged as part of The Necessary Stage's main season at Gallery Theatre, National Museum of Singapore from 26th March 2015 to 29th March 2015.

A hilarious comedy about two mothers-in-law who can’t stand each other but there is one thing they both agree on.

Neigbours Will Talk

The performances of short skits will be directed by our Senior Associates and performed by Theatre for Seniors (TFS) members. These skits, most of which are written and/or devised by the seniors, originated from the TFS Encore series.

The four selected skits will be presented in a 30-minute performance.

When trouble starts brewing at the home, their friendship is tested. Can they work together? Will they remain together? Should they form a K-Pop group?

Pioneer (Girls) Generation is a no-holds-barred comedy with sharp and critical observations about ageing and everything else in Singapore. If you thought you knew all about growing old in Singapore, think again.
