What if this family is plagued by problems - a Father who has recently been retrenched and has difficulty finding a new job; a daughter stressed out by school and relationships; a son who has no time to enjoy his youth; and a mother trying desperately to hold the family together. A family that plays together, stays together. This family is not only trying to stay together; this family is fighting to stay alive.

The Theatre For Youth Ensemble's first showcase features Metafall whose fluidity and concurrent fragmentation symbolises the solidarity of the TFYE and the individualism of each member. The heart of the showing is the play Velveteen Rabbits, a firm testament to the struggle and dissension of youth. The play lapses into a movement piece, Angst, the carefully sculpted product of two hours of spontaneity that ends in affirmation.

Signs of Fire Camp

Calling all drama enthusiasts from secondary schools in Singapore. Join The Esplanade and The Necessary Stage as they bring for the first time, a 5 day drama camp held at the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. Helmed artistically by Natalie Hennedige, full-time artist with TNS, Signs of Fire is the theme of the cam as fire represents passion, desire, energy; words often associated with young people, and should be symbolic of the participants' attitudes towards drama and the arts. The camp aims to provide students with a passion in drama the opportunity to investigate the key elements and tools of drama and performance within the creative arts. Other art forms such as visual art, movement/dance, puppetry and story-telling will be moven into the workshops conducted at the camp. Ultimately, the camp hopes to excite students in their performance-making and long-term interest in the arts.

You'd think it would be easy enough to get into a classroom on your first day as a teacher. Maybe you could even teach a lesson... But in this satirical farce, newbie Philip finds that school ain't what it used to be since the System took over.

Ian is picked on a bulled in school. One day, he tells his classmates that they should leave him alone because he is special. Because he has a secret power: to walk on barren soil and make it flower again at his feet. No one believes him, of course. It's all just make-belief, they say. He doesn't think so. He doesn't want it to be so.

CPL Cheong has just been shot in the belly at the firing range: in his last moments of his life, he tells the audience his story. He has been pregnant with a child of unknown origin since BMP, or so he believes. Despite the sensible advice of his army buddy and his government prostitute imaginary friend, he attempts to destroy the foetus by various means, including visits to the Medical Centre and a fall from the roof of the Accoms block (which earns him a medical downgrade). Eventually, Cheong learns to live with his pregnancy until, when approaching ORD, he realises the child may survive him and shoots himself.
