Award-winning actress Siti Khalijah Zainal takes centre-stage in this brand new one-woman show specially created for her by Alvin Tan and Haresh Sharma. Best Of looks at issues of the day through collective stories and personal reflection. 

A foreign journalist is taken to task after writing some objectionable articles. A university exchange student tries to organise a forum on campus and encounters obstacles. The lives of these unlikely individuals meet and intertwine in The Necessary Stage's latest production. Characters clash, tensions run high, and truth is questioned. Can we turn back time and return to a harmonious past? Who is allowed to speak out for what they believe? Do we welcome the views of foreigners? Or should they Balek Kampong? 

The Tsunami tragedy on Boxing Day 2004 was one of the most traumatic crises in recent human history of natural catastrophes. The Necessary Stage, with our history of engaging society and reality, will present a work that looks at human behaviour during the Tsunami tragedy. Texts, multimedia, sonic landscape and performance will be brought together in contemporary theatre practice; not to recapture the tragic moments, but to bring across moments of recollection; how human beings recall, what do they remember of Boxing Day 2004. This exploration and presentation is not a singular narrative but will comprise voices of people affected in the Tsunami tragedy. Like most life situations, there are many perspectives which encourages us to explore, reflect and make our own verdicts as to what went wrong and how to move on. But different perspectives cannot erase the devastation experienced first hand by those affected by the tsunami. The Verbatim Theatre method - using voices of people involved in the tragedy will bring texts direct from them onto stage to us.

Increasingly, our Youth are surrounded by sexual images, facts and distortions, news stories and sexual humour, as well as having ready to access to sexual information on the internet, not to mention chat rooms and chat lines where they can experiment with sexual interaction in the privacy of their home. But there is still little opportunity for them to make sense of it, even whilst trying to come to terms with their own physical, hormonal and emotional changes and identity.

Birds and Bees...Please? Acknowledges teenagers' interest, frustration, confusion and embarrassment over the subject of sex. It encourages students not to clamp up in shame and suppression over sexual matters, nor to let their hormones, their peers or the media dictate their choices, but rather actively and responsibly learn about sex without jumping into it impulsively.
