It is the story of the MP's wife, who tries to cope with her husband's injury and the media spotlight. It is the story of the maid's employer, who is also struggling with her own tragedy. These 3 women may mean nothing to each other, but they need one another to survive. The maid, the employer and the MP's wife. Are they all Model Citizens? Director Alvin Tan and Playwright Haresh Sharma, who have been working together for more than two decades, return with another original, thought-provoking work. Model Citizens features theatre stalwarts Goh Guat Kian, Siti Khalijah and Karen Tan.

Contemporary social theatre is urgent in today’s increasingly borderless world. It is usually buttressed in the intra-cultural. But Singapore’s intra-cultural includes multiple cultural worlds and belief systems – a microcosm of Asia, especially when one includes the migrant workers as well. Creating theatre by drawing from fieldwork interviews has brought different cultural perspectives to TNS’s brand of contemporary social theatre.
